Post traumatic stress leads to growth in female survivors of Katrina years down the road

Jean Rhodes of U. of Massachusetts Boston and her group found that greater stress from hurricane Katrina was associated with greater growth years later in the low income adult female population they studied. They suggest that for some survivors of disaster a greater sense of meaning and purpose develops following severe trauma.
